If I did not need or want a Bud Light this advertisement does a good job at making me change my mind. It may not make me decide I want one at the moment, but it might help me decide that when I am thirsty and want a drink to choose Bud Light.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/ncaa/men/gameflash/2009/12/09/57489_recap.html?eref=sihp

“NEW YORK(AP) John Wall has played nine games for Kentucky. His latest was his best – and the end of this one showed the freshman guard is as good as advertised.
Wall scored a season-high 25 points, including 12 of his team’s last 15, and the fourth-ranked Wildcats beat No. 14 Connecticut 64-61 on Wednesday night in the SEC/Big East Invitational.
”He’s phenomenal, one of the best players out there,” Kentucky forward Patrick Patterson said. ”If we need a crunch-time basket we give it to John and we know we are going to have the advantage. Pretty much when we need baskets we know who to get the ball to.”
What made Wall’s performance in his first appearance in Madison Square Garden even more remarkable is that he was saddled with foul trouble in the first half before dominating the game over the final 7 1/2 minutes – even when Connecticut made a defensive switch that slowed him down for a few possessions.
”I just try to be a point guard,” Wall said. ”I struggled some in the first half then picked it up in the second and led us to the victory.”
Connecticut’s Kemba Walker , considered one of college basketball’s fastest guards, spent most of the game covering and being covered by Wall.
”He’s not a freshman, not at all,” Walker said. ”The ball is always in his hands and that’s good for him and his team.”
Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun said Wall ”is no freshman. He’s a great player.”
The Wildcats (9-0) moved John Calipari closer to one of the icons at the school that has more wins (1,997) than any other program. The only coach to have a better start to his career at Kentucky was Adolph Rupp, who started 10-0 in 1931.”

This whole document should be paraphrased for readers who are not well educated on basketball and don’t understand all of the terms used to describe the game and statistics.

It is linked and strong.

“The film series, whose sixth installment “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 8, has become the most successful franchise in history, smashing several box office records and amassing billions in revenue.”
-Divergent, strong.
The premise that the Harry Potter series has become the most successful franchise in history is supported by the conclusions that: 1.) it smashed several box office records and 2.) it made millions of dollars.

“Things went so well for the Jon & Kate Plus 8 stars that the arbitration’s scheduled second day, planned for Monday, is no longer necessary.”
-simple, weak
It is weak because it doesn’t explain how or why it went well. Those are just broad terms.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/weather/12/09/winter.storm/index.html

“(CNN) — As if the heavy snow, ice and high winds from a major winter storm weren’t enough, temperatures plummeted in the upper Midwest and elsewhere Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
The storm brought blizzard conditions to some areas as gusty winds and blowing snow created whiteout conditions across much of the upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions. Winds of at least 35 mph and rain to the east caused hundreds of flights to be delayed or canceled, leaving travelers stranded. Parts of the Southeast received more than 6 inches of rain, causing flash flooding.
A 28-year-old woman was killed in Omaha, Nebraska, Tuesday night when a truck plowing snow in a parking lot backed into her, police spokesman Jacob Bettin said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.”
-Serial, strong.
The storm caused the accident, and the accident caused the death. Therefore this is a serial argument.

“Winds of at least 35 mph and rain to the east caused hundreds of flights to be delayed or canceled, leaving travelers stranded.”
-convergent, strong
It is convergent because two things caused flights to be delayed: wind and rain.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/10/21/obama.poll/index.html

Obama’s poll numbers show wear and tear

Fact:

“For the first time since Obama took office, fewer than half of Americans agree with the president on issues important to them, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Tuesday. A majority, 51 percent, disagree — a jump of 10 percentage points since April.”

“Americans apparently agree. About a third believe the president deserved the prize, according to this week’s CNN/Opinion Research poll. Fifty-six percent say they disapprove of the Nobel Prize Committee’s decision to honor him, the survey found. Still, there’s a hometown hero effect here, with almost 70 percent saying they are proud an American president won it, the poll said.”

These are statements of fact because they provide supporting evidence with statistics.

Opinions:

“It’s awfully early yet, but this president might be shaping up to be a little like Ronald Reagan, where people actually didn’t often agree with Ronald Reagan’s ideas, but they loved the guy,” said Paul Begala, a Democratic strategist and CNN contributor.”

“Clinton is in a nonpolitical position, doing policy work in an area in which she really likes working. She was once seen as a sharply divisive politician, the “also-ran” of the 2008 Democratic primary season.”

Part 2

A.

My oldest child went to Lake Champion this summer for the first time. I wasn’t sure how he would react to fully accepting Jesus. When I picked him up a week later, he was the first one off the bus and, grinning from ear to ear, picked me up, hugged me and thanked me for the best five days of his life. Needless to say I was speechless but thankful. He has taken a very active interest in Young Life, and his younger siblings are eager to start WyldLife this school year. After a very difficult past three years for all of us, this is the start of great things to come!  – Cheryl, feedback via younglife.org

“By the time we get to the site, it’s not really raining anymore, though there’s gray sheets of sheets of water looming a couple miles offshore.  This is where the traffic is: a half dozen big dulldozers are moving tons of sand around, attempting fruitlessly to protect the trashed contest site.  It’s a mess.  ”Washed away” may be a little exaggeration– the judges tower is still standing, for example– but overnight, the Atlantic washed through the whole thing and up to the dunes, taking windows, tables, chairs, monitors, in the process.  The mayor and half of the town of Peniche is on hand trying to salvage anything worth salvaging.  One helper is pulling a soaking wet monitor out of the sand, and says, “This is Portugal; we fix everything here.”"

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/21/latinos.poll/index.html

“According to the poll, 57 percent of all Americans say that Latinos face a lot or some discrimination that hurts their chances to get good jobs. That’s down nine points from two decades ago, but is slightly higher than the 53 percent who now feel that way about job discrimination against African-Americans.”

“Many people have criticized the dolls for either having hair that’s too long or too straight, but I have long, straight hair that I straightened. But it’s my hair and a part of me,” said Tanisa Zoe Samuel, an African-American iReporter from the Turks and Caicos, in the Caribbean. “Black women come in all shades, shapes and varieties that there is just no way to capture everyone with three dolls.” iReport.com: Samuel shares her thoughts on the new Barbie”

“Authorities are seizing too little heroin — intercepting only about 20 percent of opiate traffic around the world, according to the U.N. report, titled “Addiction, Crime and Insurgency.” It comes on the heels of a U.N. warning last month that two years’ worth of opium is effectively “missing,” probably stockpiled by the Taliban and criminal gangs.”

D.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/10/21/un.heroin.trade/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

“About 15 million people around the world use heroin, opium or morphine, fueling a $65 billion market, warned Antonio Maria Costa, head of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime.”

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/10/20/clinton.arms.control/index.html#cnnSTCText?iref=werecommend

“According to talking points provided to CNN by a senior administration official, Clinton will say that U.S. allies and partners “should know that we have their backs; any adversary should know we will defend ourselves.”

chapter 3

Arouses no suspicion

Doctors say giving birth to extreme multiples comes with tremendous risks for the mother and the babies. Risks for the children include bleeding in the brain, intestinal problems, developmental delays and lifelong learning disabilities.

Arouses suspicion but proves consistent

“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real,” Obama said in his inaugural address. “They are serious, and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America: They will be met.”

Inconsistent:

Mayumi Heene said that the family was sitting in their living room, distraught and terrified for missing Falcon, when he walked into the room.

“[It] felt like from nowhere. When I first saw him, I couldn’t even believe it. I couldn’t comprehend right away,” she said, adding that the next moment she was “just jumping, calling his name.” She began to “scream and cry, and I just enjoyed that moment.”

This statement is inconsistent based on facts.  The woman knew where her son was the entire time and could not have been  surprised when he walked in the living room.

Hulk Hogan says he considered suicide after break-up

Assumed: Ali saved Hulk’s life.  This is assumed because Hulk would have pulled the trigger on the gun if she had not called.

Assumed: His son Nick is still in jail.  It never alluded to him being released from jail so we assume he is still in jail.
